Classic tactile ribbed  ammonites  from Whitby in Yorkshire,  These dactylioceras ammonites are found in the Upper Lias, Alum shales around 180 million years old. These ammonites have a place in folklore as far back as medieval times when locals would carve snakeheads into the ammonite ends and sell them to pilgrims as good luck charms.
